A game of two halves today. First half, the team looked low on confidence, in poor form and lacking in self belief. In the second half, they played free flowing football and should have, at least, shared the spoils today but had enough good opportunities to have won the game.
The goals conceded in the first period were poor goals to give away and even though Inter Macc were the better team, they were presented with a two goal lead. Sebi mishandling for the first, and then naive defending at a set piece for the second.
The back four played very well, marshalled by the excellent Leon. Going forward, we offered little with too many players isolated in possession and therefore unable to forge any in-roads into the oppositions strong back four. Dom was the pick, driving forward with the ball on numerous occassions only just outdoing Caius who was having an excellent dual with his fullback.
Half time, 0-2 down. The strength of this group of players is their ability to listen, take on instruction and then put it into action. They did so, once again, in the second half.
A very dubicious third goal for Inter Macc when the player seemed to be about 10 yards offside only seemed to re-ignite the pink shirted players self belief and soon they had pulled two goals back. Finn scored both from near identikit build ups. Sam assisting with the first, Aaron the second and Finn, calm as ever applying the finish. Moments later Finn thought he'd bagged a hatrick only to see a defender scramble the ball off the line and the resulting mele see the ball cleared away from danger.
The players created chance after chance as they went on the front foot lookinf for the equaliser but it wasn't to be today. A disappointing result but a fantastic performance in the second half.
With the final league game arranged for Tuesday (but still with the possibility of the RNE game being played) the players should be proud of their first season at 11-a-side football. They are all Club record breakers as they are the highest finishing team we've ever had at the Club, so congratulations and well done to them and well done to the fantasic touchline support they have received this season, in all weathers and without hesitation.
MoM: Dominic, a versatile performance, played with intelligence and excellent work rate
