Report

Saturday brought the lastl league game of the season at our local rivals FC Blue Star. Not only the final game of the season but potentially the final game of mini soccer for the White team before they move on to 11-a-side preparation for next season.

This finale to the season brought a change at the top as I moved "upstairs" to the role of Director of Football (I have never understood what this role entailed - apparently it-s mainly entertaining my 5 year old daughter - many thanks to Leon and Jake D for their assistance over the course of the morning).

This move allowed Colin to take charge for the final game, and didn-t he take advantage! Good job it is the last game otherwise I think I-d be staying "upstairs" for the forseeable future!

With only Rory absent we had a strong squad but the first half proved to be a much closer contest than perhaps we had expected and that was to the credit of FC Blue Star. The stalemate was broken just before half time with a goal from Sam.

It was time for the new manager to wieve his half time magic, and whatever he said it worked like a dream. The boys came out in the second half fired up and confident. So much so that we scored an incredible 7 goals, Sam weighing in with another 5 (amazing) and Finn and Aaron also getting onto the scoresheet.

The boys showed what level of football they can play when everything clicks and confidence is high, it was a joy to watch at times. Everyone of the squad contributed and played their part to the full, in particular Sam had one of his unplayable dayswith 6 great goals, Aaron was superb in controlling the midfiled and Jake Healey was again a rock at the back using possession thoughtfully. The choice for man of the match, however, went to Jake Doyle for a wonderfully unselfish display of attacking football, some of his lay-offs and flicks were brilliant and opened up the opposition to let others score.

Overall a fitting climax to a really fine season where the boys have all worked really hard and the improvement is there for all to see. Thanks to all the parents and wider families for your support, not just on Saturday but all year. Your encouragement is always positive and supportive and I know the boys really appreciate it.

Finally, well done to Colin for a tremendous debut as manager. I-d like to thank Colin for all his help and support these past two years and I look forward to working with him and Paul next year as the boys move to 11-a-side.

Roll on season 2011/12!!
